Travel Decision Guide
Paris Airport Transfer: Taxi, Private Transfer, Train or Metro?
Choosing a Paris airport transfer is not only about getting from Charles de Gaulle or Orly to your hotel. The right choice changes with your airport, luggage, group size, arrival time, hotel location and what you plan to do next — including Versailles, Disneyland Paris or a driving trip beyond the city.
The decision: If you want door-to-door certainty, I would start with a prebooked transfer and choose the provider around the need that matters most: GetTransfer for vehicle and offer choice, Welcome Pickups for the smoothest meet-and-greet experience, or Kiwitaxi when clear passenger and luggage capacity matter most. If you are traveling light and your hotel is convenient to the RER B or Metro Line 14, public transit may be the better answer.
About This Guidance
Travel Fine Print evaluates Paris transfers by looking at what changes the real decision: which airport you are using, door-to-door convenience, passenger and luggage capacity, meet-and-greet service, waiting time, flight delays, fixed taxi fares, public-transit access, day trips and whether the traveler actually needs a rental car instead of a one-way transfer.

A prebooked transfer can remove several arrival-day decisions at once: where to meet the driver, which vehicle fits your luggage, and how you will get from the airport to the hotel.
Quick Answer
What is the best way to get from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to the city?
There is no single best option. For travelers who want door-to-door service, especially with luggage, children, a larger group or a late arrival, a prebooked private transfer is usually the easiest option. I would start with GetTransfer if you want to compare vehicle and driver offers, Welcome Pickups if you want a more standardized meet-and-greet experience, and Kiwitaxi if clear vehicle and luggage capacity is the priority.
If you are comfortable carrying your bags, the RER B is a strong alternative from CDG. The 2026 Paris Region ↔ Airports ticket is €14 and covers the RER B between CDG and Paris. Official taxis also use regulated fixed fares for direct airport–Paris trips: currently €56 to the Right Bank and €65 to the Left Bank from CDG.
TFP rule: solve the transportation problem you actually have — not simply the first ride you need after landing.
The Decision in 30 Seconds
Start with your airport, then the bags and destination.
The best Paris transfer option usually becomes clearer once you know whether you are landing at CDG, Orly or Beauvais, how much luggage you have and where you are actually going. A CDG to Paris transfer, an Orly airport transfer and a Beauvais arrival are three materially different transportation decisions.
| Your situation | What I would prioritize |
|---|---|
| 1–2 travelers, light luggage, convenient RER B location | RER B first from CDG; transfer if door-to-door convenience matters more. |
| Landing at Orly with a convenient Line 14 connection | Metro Line 14 first; transfer if your hotel requires awkward connections or you have substantial luggage. |
| You want the least arrival friction | Welcome Pickups for a prearranged meet-and-greet and fixed quote. |
| You want to compare actual vehicle and driver offers | GetTransfer. |
| You need a specific passenger and luggage capacity | Kiwitaxi or GetTransfer; size the vehicle around people and bags. |
| You are going to Versailles or Disneyland Paris | Compare a private transfer with direct rail or a guided tour, depending on how much of the day you want arranged. |
| Paris is only the first stop of a driving trip | Compare a rental car before paying for a transfer you may not need. |
Paris Transfer Map
See why the airport and final destination can change the answer.
Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Beauvais sit in very different places relative to central Paris. Add Gare du Nord, Versailles and Disneyland Paris, and the “best” transfer can change quickly depending on whether rail simplicity, door-to-door convenience or the full onward route matters most.
Map points and connecting lines are decision guides, not exact pickup points or turn-by-turn routes.
What Changes the Answer
Passenger count is only half the vehicle decision.
A sedan that technically seats four may not be the right choice for four travelers with four large suitcases. The same applies to vans and minibuses: seats and usable cargo space are not interchangeable.
1–3 travelers with standard luggage
A sedan is usually enough. If you mainly want a straightforward ride booked in advance, compare Kiwitaxi vehicle classes.
4–8 travelers or substantial luggage
Start with a van or minibus rather than assuming two cars will be easier. Our Private Airport Transfer vs Uber guide explains why vehicle count can change the math.
Large group or Sprinter-style need
Kiwitaxi currently lists Paris airport minibus classes up to 19 passengers. GetTransfer can also surface larger vehicle offers, making both worth checking when one larger vehicle may replace several smaller rides.
Premium or business-class arrival
If the experience matters as much as the ride, GetTransfer is particularly useful because you can compare different vehicle and carrier offers rather than simply accepting the next available car.
Group will need transportation for several days
Do not automatically buy a transfer and then rent multiple cars later. Compare the full trip setup first. See One Passenger Van vs Two Rental Cars.
Beyond the Airport
A Paris transfer is not only a ride from CDG.
Once the airport ride is solved, the same kind of door-to-door transportation can become useful again elsewhere in the trip — but it is not always the best value.
Paris hotel → Versailles
If you mainly need transportation, a private transfer can give your group direct hotel pickup and flexibility. If you also want admission, a guide and a planned itinerary, a tour may solve more of the day. Browse Paris day trips and tours.
Paris → Disneyland Paris
Families may value a direct vehicle because it removes station changes, luggage or stroller handling and the need to get everyone across the city first. But the RER A is also a strong option for travelers staying near a convenient station, so compare convenience rather than assuming a private transfer is necessary.
Airport → Disneyland Paris
If Disneyland is your first stop, compare the airport-to-Disneyland route directly instead of paying to go into central Paris first. A larger prebooked vehicle can make particular sense for a family carrying luggage, a stroller or both.
Hotel → airport on departure day
The return ride can be a different decision from arrival day: more luggage, an early flight, a different airport or several travelers leaving together can all change the best option.
Three Options Worth Comparing
Choose the provider around the need that matters most.
I would keep the shortlist to three. More providers do not necessarily create a better decision.
| Provider | Best fit | What stands out |
|---|---|---|
| GetTransfer | Travelers who want the most choice | Marketplace-style comparison of vehicle and carrier offers, including premium and larger-vehicle possibilities. |
| Welcome Pickups | Travelers who want the least arrival friction | Prearranged meet-and-greet, flight monitoring, fixed quote and up to 60 minutes of complimentary airport waiting time. |
| Kiwitaxi | Travelers who want clear vehicle capacity | Passenger and luggage limits are shown by vehicle class, including larger minivan and minibus options. |
The Objective Alternatives
You may not need a private transfer at all.
TFP is not here to make the affiliate option win. Paris has unusually strong airport public transportation and regulated taxi fares, so a transfer needs to earn its place.
Official Paris taxi
For a simple airport-to-hotel ride, an official taxi can be a very reasonable option because direct airport–Paris fares are regulated. Current fixed fares are €56 from CDG to the Right Bank and €65 to the Left Bank, and €45 from Orly to the Right Bank and €36 to the Left Bank. If you prefer to settle the vehicle and pickup before landing, Kiwitaxi is the closest match to that straightforward prebooked need.
Charles de Gaulle airport transfer: RER B or door-to-door?
The RER B connects CDG directly with central Paris stations including Gare du Nord, Châtelet–Les Halles and Saint-Michel–Notre-Dame. The 2026 Paris Region ↔ Airports ticket is €14. This is often my first comparison for travelers with manageable luggage and a hotel near a convenient RER or connecting Metro station.
Orly airport transfer: Metro Line 14 or door-to-door?
Orly now has a direct Metro Line 14 connection into Paris. The airport ticket is also €14, making the Metro especially attractive when your hotel is convenient to Line 14 or an easy connection.
What about Beauvais Airport?
Paris-Beauvais (BVA) is much farther from central Paris than CDG or Orly. Do not evaluate a Beauvais flight only by the airfare — include the extra ground transportation time and cost. Shuttle and coach options can be economical, while a private transfer becomes more attractive for groups or awkward arrival times.
Uber
Uber pickup is available at Charles de Gaulle, including larger ride categories, and Uber Reserve can be booked in advance. The tradeoff is that an on-demand price can vary with demand, while an official Paris taxi has regulated direct airport fares and a private transfer can lock in the pickup process before you land. See Private Airport Transfer vs Uber for the broader decision.
TFP Tip
Paris is one place where the hotel address can change the answer completely. A traveler staying near Châtelet, Gare du Nord or a Line 14 station may have a very easy public-transit arrival. A traveler with the same flight but a hotel requiring stairs, multiple connections or a long final walk may reasonably decide that door-to-door service is worth paying for.
The Need You May Not Have Considered
Do you need an airport transfer — or a car for what happens after Paris?
If you are going directly into central Paris and staying there, I would usually avoid collecting a rental car just to park it. But if Paris is only the first stop and you are continuing to Normandy, the Loire Valley, Champagne or another driving destination, a rental car may solve more of the trip than a one-way transfer.
Before paying for a transfer now and a rental later, compare Paris-area rental-car options. If your group is large enough to require two cars, also see One Passenger Van vs Two Rental Cars before booking.
The Fine Print That Matters
The headline promise is only part of the transfer decision.
Flight monitoring is not the same as unlimited waiting. Welcome Pickups currently includes up to 60 minutes of complimentary waiting for airport pickups when the flight details are provided. Other providers use their own waiting rules. Check the exact booking terms rather than assuming the driver waits indefinitely. If the airline changes your arrival time before the trip, our Airline Schedule Changes guide explains what to review before accepting the new itinerary.
Passenger capacity is not luggage capacity. Confirm both. A vehicle with enough seats can still be too small once full-size luggage, strollers, wheelchairs or other bulky items are added.
Child seats should be requested before pickup. Transfer providers may offer child-seat options, but do not assume the correct seat will simply be in the vehicle unless it was requested and confirmed.
Paris taxi flat fares apply to direct airport–Paris trips. The airport, which bank of the Seine your destination is on, and whether the trip qualifies for the regulated direct fare all matter.
A marketplace offer is not one standardized product. With GetTransfer, compare the actual vehicle/carrier offer and terms you are accepting — not only the lowest displayed number. That same principle applies across travel bookings: our Hidden Travel Fees guide explains why the first price shown may not represent the final trip cost.
Public transit can be excellent until the last connection becomes difficult. Count the stairs, transfers, walking distance and luggage handling between the airport platform and your actual hotel door.
Beauvais is not CDG or Orly. A low-cost flight into BVA can come with substantially more ground-transport time. Include that in the airfare decision before booking the flight.
My Take
In Paris, I would let the airport, hotel location and luggage decide whether a transfer is worth it.
From CDG, I would seriously consider the RER B if I were traveling light and staying near a convenient station. From Orly, I would do the same with Metro Line 14. Paris has strong airport public transportation, so a private transfer needs to earn the extra cost.
If I wanted to compare actual vehicle and driver offers, especially for a larger group or a more premium ride, I would start with GetTransfer.
If I wanted the least arrival-day friction, I would lean toward Welcome Pickups. If vehicle size and luggage capacity were the deciding factors, I would compare Kiwitaxi first.
TFP Recommendation
Use a private transfer when door-to-door convenience solves a real problem; otherwise, Paris public transit is hard to ignore.
The Recommendation
For travelers with substantial luggage, children, larger groups or awkward hotel connections, a prebooked transfer is the strongest starting point. GetTransfer is best when you want choice, Welcome Pickups when you want a more standardized meet-and-greet, and Kiwitaxi when vehicle capacity is central to the decision.
If your hotel is convenient to the RER B from CDG or Metro Line 14 from Orly and you can handle your own bags, public transit may be the smarter choice.

Before You Go
Once the transfer is handled, these are the next decisions worth solving.
Airport transportation is only one part of the trip. Connectivity, hotel location, luggage timing and whether you need your own vehicle can change the rest of the itinerary just as quickly.

Paris transfer questions travelers commonly ask
What is the easiest way to get from Charles de Gaulle Airport to a Paris hotel?
A prebooked private transfer is usually the easiest door-to-door option because the vehicle and pickup are arranged before arrival. The RER B can be faster and much less expensive when your hotel is convenient to the rail network and you can comfortably manage your luggage.
How much is an official taxi from Charles de Gaulle Airport to Paris?
Current regulated direct fares are €56 from CDG to the Right Bank and €65 to the Left Bank. The fixed fare applies to qualifying direct airport–Paris trips, so confirm the destination and current rules when you travel.
How much is an official taxi from Orly Airport to Paris?
Current regulated direct fares are €45 from Orly to the Right Bank and €36 to the Left Bank. A prebooked transfer may still be worthwhile when you need a particular vehicle, child seat or meet-and-greet process.
Is the RER B cheaper than a private transfer from CDG?
Usually, especially for one or two adults. The 2026 Paris Region ↔ Airports ticket costs €14 per adult for the airport rail trip. A transfer becomes more competitive when several people share one vehicle or when door-to-door convenience matters more than the lowest cost.
Can I take Metro Line 14 directly from Orly Airport?
Yes. Metro Line 14 serves Orly Airport directly, and the 2026 Paris Region ↔ Airports ticket costs €14. It is particularly useful when your hotel is near Line 14 or an easy Metro connection.
Does Uber work at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport?
Yes. Uber pickup is available at CDG, including larger ride categories, and Uber Reserve can be arranged in advance. Pickup instructions vary by terminal and ride type, so follow the location shown in the app after landing. If you are deciding whether to book ahead or request a ride after landing, see Private Airport Transfer vs Uber.
Should I book a larger vehicle just because my group has more passengers?
Base the decision on passengers and luggage together. A car with enough seats can still be too small once several full-size suitcases, a stroller or other bulky items are added. If your group may need more than one vehicle later in the trip, compare the full setup in One Passenger Van vs Two Rental Cars.
Can I use a private transfer from Paris to Versailles or Disneyland Paris?
Yes. A private transfer can provide direct hotel pickup and simplify family or group logistics. But both destinations also have public-transport alternatives, so compare convenience, group size and the amount of planning you want included. If you would rather bundle transportation with sightseeing or admission, compare Paris day trips and tours.
What about Paris Beauvais Airport transfers?
Beauvais (BVA) is significantly farther from central Paris than CDG or Orly. Coach or shuttle transportation may be the lower-cost option, while a private transfer can become more attractive for groups, substantial luggage or arrival times that make shared transportation inconvenient.
What happens to my Paris airport transfer if my flight time changes?
Check the provider’s flight-monitoring and waiting-time rules first. A small delay may be handled automatically when the driver is tracking your flight, but a larger airline schedule change can affect a prepaid pickup arranged around the original arrival time. Before accepting a materially changed flight, review our Airline Schedule Changes guide and then update the transfer provider if needed.
Should I rent a car instead of booking a Paris airport transfer?
If you are staying in central Paris, a rental car may create more parking and driving friction than it solves. If Paris is only the first stop and you will need a car for Normandy, the Loire Valley, Champagne or another driving destination, compare Paris-area rental-car options before paying separately for a transfer.
